RECENTLY READ BOOKS - Thought I’d lend a recommending hand.
Also known as Books I Think You Should Read Immediately.
The Slap - I gave my own copy to my Dad who I hope won’t judge me for the amount of sex written into the book, especially since I didn’t write it! I JUST SAID IT WAS A GREAT BOOK! I FORGOT ABOUT THE DIRTY PARTS AND PASSED IT OVER TO MY OWN FATHER!
It’s a challenging and interesting story told from different perspectives. As someone who doesn’t have children, I can certainly relate to times during gatherings where parents refuse to acknowledge that their off spring are behaving like actual demons, however I must state again that my father must believe me when I say I’m a Nun and the sex bits in the book confused me thoroughly.
ROOM - Holy sweet bejesus! Terrifying and brilliant - My emotions were wrapped up in every page. I can’t tell you anything else - just buy it.
How to be a Woman - The author, Caitlin Moran, is one of my favourite writers. She’s written down her thoughts and rants into this book and while she does say the word C U NEXT TUESDAY in its real form so many times that I nearly said it out loud for the first time ever, (AND I’M A NUN! IMAGINE!), it is a paper bound bundle of laughter and wonderment.
The Forgotten Garden - I read another novel by the same author called The House at Riverton a few years back and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Forgotten Garden took me into another world of past and present and was pure unadulterated reality escapism. I love Kate Morton’s way of writing - I hope you will too.
